Church Retreat

We went on a church retreat last weekend. Our congregation used to camp together, but the campouts were getting smaller and smaller. So now we go to a Boy Scout camp for a retreat. If you want to camp, you can, and if you don't, you can stay in a cabin with a semi-comfortable bed. This was not our tent.

But this is the view that the tent dwellers had when they awoke. Can you see the boat in the distance? It was a beautiful view, but then again, all I had to do was walk out to the front porch for the view, so it was ok to stay in the cabin!

There was a Boy Scout group there camping, for real camping, and in the morning they lined up their kayaks to prepare for a day on the water. I thought the contrast of the colorful kayaks was a pretty sight. The camp dog was waiting for the boys to get going.

Maggie, the camp dog, was chomping at the bit to get into the water. #2 threw a stick in the water and she took off after it. However, she wouldn't come back out of the water. Sort of shortened the fun he was hoping to have.

And then there were the birds. These roosting on the pier posts were too far away to get a good look at, but you certainly could hear the sea gulls in the morning and evening.
I wasn't looking forward to the retreat. Not because I didn't think it would be good, but because I was feeling the need to have some time at home getting things done. God took my meager agreement to attend and turned it into a restful weekend full of meditative thoughts. The next several days I will post pictures and thoughts from my time at the retreat. Perhaps it will inspire you to spend a little time in quiet meditation as well.
